BAI recently partnered with Lee County Utilities (LCU) on a wastewater diversion project. The work redirected flow from the High Point Wastewater Treatment Plant to a nearby Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA) collection system.
This project carried a tight schedule. The High Point facility was built in 1978, and its Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) permit expires at the end of 2025. LCU needed a clear path forward, and our team moved quickly to support that goal.
Several groups played important roles throughout the process. These included LCU, FGUA, FDEP, the Brightwater developer, the Brightwater Community Development District (CDD), and local residents. Each group had its own needs and priorities, which required steady coordination.
Our team worked through a range of site challenges. Some utilities were unknown or poorly documented. Other utilities and recent improvements had to be avoided. Contracting procedures also added time to the schedule. To help LCU stay on track, we began the route survey early and started design work before the contract was fully executed. This allowed the overall project schedule to move forward without delay.
Despite the tight timeline and site conditions, the project reached a successful finish. FDEP issued clearance in late September. Diversion connections were completed in October, allowing the system to move into operation.
